If you’re like a lot of small business owners I work with, you might be feeling a little lost around SEO. What really works.

And maybe you’ve tried some things you found online, but you’re not seeing results, or maybe you’re just not sure what’s worth your time.

In this episode, I’m keeping it super tactical with a list of 15 quick-ish actions you can take to start seeing some changes in your SEO and content performance.

These aren’t complicated strategies or things that need a ton of time—just quick-ish or even sometimes easy to implement today, this week, or this month to start making SEO feel a little more doable.

Ok, grab a pen, take some notes, and let’s get into it.

Here are 15 quick-ish actions to help improve your SEO and content marketing efforts:

  1. Optimize Title Tags and Meta Descriptions
    • And easy way to see these in bulk, is to go to google and type in site:yourdomain.com. You’ll see all your pages that Google has in it’s system, in it’s index. Or you can also use a tool call ScreamingFrog. That’s another fave of mine for this type of work. Update your most important pages with targeted keywords in both the title tags and meta descriptions.
  2. Compress and Optimize Images
    • Reduce image file sizes to improve page load speed, and ensure all images have descriptive alt text. Back in episode 20, I talked about what is better for SEO, stock images or custom brand images. I’ll put a link in the show notes for you if you’re interested int hat.
  3. Claim and Verify Your Google Business Profile
    • Make sure your business appears in local search results by claiming and optimizing your Google Business Profile. Also in the show notes, is a link to my Free Google Business Profile optimization course. Goes through what needs to be filled out and how.
  4. Internal Linking
    • Add internal links to key blog posts or service pages from other pages on your website. This doesn’t mean putting a link in the footer and that’s it. Inside your blog posts, look for phrases that related to your service and link to that service page.
  5. Fix Broken Links
    • Use a tool like Screaming Frog or your choice of SEO tools to find and fix any broken links on your site.
  6. Check for Mobile Friendliness
    • Use Google’s Lighthouse tool, a chrome extension, to ensure your site works well on mobile devices. Link to this also in the show notes.
  7. Update Old Content
    • Refresh blog posts that are more than a year old with updated information and re-share them.
  8. Create a Blog Post Around a Trending Topic
    • Write a blog post around a trending industry topic using tools like Google Trends.

Let’s jump back into that list shall we?

  1. Submit a Sitemap
    • Ensure your sitemap is up-to-date and submitted to Google Search Console to help index your site more effectively.
  2. Repurpose Content
    • Take a popular blog post and turn it into a video, infographic, or social media post to reach more of your audience.
  3. Set Up Google Analytics Goals
    • Track specific actions on your website, like form submissions, so you can measure content effectiveness.
  4. Add Social Sharing Buttons
    • Make it easy for visitors to share your blog posts by adding social sharing buttons to each post.
  5.  Update Your Anchor Text
    • Anchor text is the words that are linked. You know how people sometimes use ‘click here’ or ‘learn more’? That’s anchor text. Review your internal links and update the anchor text to be more descriptive and keyword-focused.
  6.  Install an SEO Plugin
    • If you’re on WordPress, install and configure an SEO plugin like SEOPress to optimize your site easily.
  7. Publish a Listicle
    • Create a quick, helpful “Top 10” style blog post around a topic your audience cares about.

The Takeaway

Making forward progress in SEO doesn’t always mean overhauling everything at once.

Small, consistent actions can lead to meaningful changes in your website’s traffic and visibility.

Implement a few of these quick tasks, and you’ll start to see how doable SEO can be when you focus on manageable steps that build momentum over time.
