I had the pleasure of chatting with Fabienne, a business coach with 25 years of experience, on The Small Business Sweet Spot. She shared what it takes for women entrepreneurs to scale their businesses from six to seven figures—without sacrificing their personal lives.
The Power of Clarity and Intention
One of Fabienne’s most famous quotes is, “When you have the clarity of intention, the universe conspires with you to make it happen.” This quote resonated with me so much that I kept it as my phone background for years. Fabienne explains that clarity is a strategic process—it’s about getting clear on what you want and then following through with intentional action.
She believes that success is a blend of creativity and pragmatism, of listening to your heart and taking action. For many entrepreneurs, gaining that clarity is the first step toward making their business dreams a reality.
Overcoming the Overwhelm of Scaling
Fabienne’s sweet spot is helping women entrepreneurs who have hit six figures but feel overwhelmed, underpaid, and stretched too thin. These women want to grow their businesses while reclaiming their time—whether that means taking unplugged vacations or simply being more present with their families.
The key issue holding them back? The deeply ingrained belief that they must do everything themselves. Women are often socialized to put everyone else’s needs before their own, making it difficult to prioritize their own goals and time.
Using Your Time Intentionally for Greater Results
One of the most powerful takeaways from our conversation was the idea of leveraging time—not just managing it. Fabienne introduces a concept from her book, The Leveraged Business, which she offers for free on her website. She explains that women entrepreneurs often spend 80% of their time on tasks that only yield 20% of their results.
By identifying where their time is going and learning to say no to obligations that don’t serve their goals, women can reclaim up to 1,500 hours per year. Imagine what you could do with that time!
Here are a few practical ways to start:
- Identify where your time is going. Take a step back and analyze which tasks are producing real results and which are simply draining your energy.
- Apply the 80/20 rule. Focus on the 20% of tasks that drive 80% of your business growth.
- Let go of unnecessary obligations. It’s okay to step away from commitments that no longer align with your goals.
The Unique Brilliance Framework
Fabienne also shared a powerful exercise she teaches in her program, called the Unique Brilliance Quadrant. It categorizes tasks into four areas:
- Unique Brilliance: The work you love, excel at, and that generates the most results.
- Excellence: Tasks you’re good at but don’t necessarily enjoy.
- Competence: Things you can do, but others could do better.
- Incompetence: Tasks you should never be doing.
The goal? Spend the majority of your time in the Unique Brilliance quadrant and gradually delegate, automate, or eliminate everything else.
Why Willpower Isn’t Enough
Another key insight Fabienne shared is that willpower alone isn’t enough to reach seven figures. She explains that true action comes from the subconscious mind, which controls 95% of our behaviors. Without shifting your mindset and overcoming limiting beliefs—such as fear of success, visibility, or judgment—you’ll struggle to take the right actions.
Fabienne recommends addressing subconscious barriers through a combination of clarity, mentorship, and mindset work. She emphasizes that having a mentor who has already achieved what you aspire to is crucial for breaking through these mental blocks.
The Importance of Community
One of the biggest takeaways from our conversation was the power of community. Fabienne firmly believes that success isn’t a solo journey. She encourages women to surround themselves with a supportive network of like-minded entrepreneurs who understand the challenges and aspirations of growing a business.
In isolation, it’s easy to doubt yourself and procrastinate. But in the right community, you’ll find encouragement, accountability, and the confidence to keep pushing forward—even when things get tough.
