Sometimes I feel like I over think how long it’s going to take me to do something and then I just get so uuugghhhh, frustrated, I don’t do it.
And then come to find out, had I just sat down and did it, it would be done.
Sometimes. In that vein?…
I thought it might be helpful for you if I put some super specific marketing tasks in buckets according to effort levels. Things that might be simpler or take less time all the way to those that might need more time and energy and budget.
All of these are organic, meaning they aren’t meant to need budget necessarily. You can do them yourself but you could also hire out. But they are all organic and thus more likely to be sustainable in lead generation.
🟢 Low Effort (easy wins when you’re short on energy, time, or budget)
- Google Business Profile power-hour → Revisit your description, add a quick update post, upload a fresh photo, or seed a few new Q&As.
This matters why? Because small updates signal activity to Google and keep you relevant in local searches. - Email your list a simple ‘value drop’ → Send one short tip, link to a resource, and include a soft nudge back to your services.
This matters why? Because even a tiny touchpoint keeps you top of mind and builds trust with your audience. - Internal linking sprint → Pick 2–3 recent blog posts and add links from older posts to the new ones.
This matters why? Because internal links guide both Google and readers to pages that matter - Refresh 3 posts → Refresh meta titles and meta descriptions on older content that’s still getting impressions but not clicks.
This matters why? Because a stronger headline and call-to-action in a description can turn “meh” traffic into actual leads.
🟡 Medium Effort (balanced input, still realistic to knock out)
- Refresh one high-traffic post → Update/add stats, examples, original quotes or headings.
This matters why? Because this keeps an already-performing page ranking and converting instead of slipping. - Guest on a podcast → Pitch 2–3 shows, prep talking points, and a clear CTA.
This matters why? Because you get exposure to a built-in audience and an evergreen backlink to your site.
Oh, and as luck would have it, myself and my friend and colleague, Emily Aborn, are hosting a live complimentary workshop on podcast guesting! Check out the details here. - Mini case study (before/after + result) → Write a 200–300 word story of a client win and share it.
This matters why? Because case studies build credibility fast and help potential clients picture working with you. - Lightweight backlinks (warm outreach) → Ask partners or peers to link to a helpful resource on your site.
This matters why? Because backlinks boost your search authority and rankings. I like to call it digital street cred. 🤗 - Directory & citation tune-up → Audit and update or add your business to 5–10 directories.
This matters why? Because consistent directory info builds trust with search engines.
🔴 High Effort (when you’ve got more energy or resources to give)
- Repurpose one podcast or webinar into 3 posts → Turn a transcript into multiple blog posts with summaries, quotes, and CTAs.
This matters why? Because you squeeze 3x the visibility out of content you’ve already created. - Create a tightly-scoped lead magnet → Build a one-page checklist or short guide tied to a core service.
This matters why? Because a strong lead magnet grows your email list with people already interested in what you do.
For more lead magnets ideas and insider tips on how to create them, I have a blog post for that. Link in the show notes for ya. - Topic cluster brief (1 pillar + 3 spokes) → Plan one in-depth umbrella page with 3 supporting posts around a service.
This matters why? Because topic clusters help you rank for competitive keywords and show depth of expertise. - Batch 5 short-form videos → Record 5 bite-sized tips in one sitting, add captions, and schedule them.
This matters why? Because short videos expand your reach and give your audience quick hits of value. - Collaborative live or webinar → Partner with a peer to co-host and repurpose the recording.
This matters why? Because you double your audience exposure and walk away with content assets for months.
The Takeaway
Not every marketing task has to eat up all your time, energy, and budget. Some days a quick win like an email to your list is plenty fine. Other times you’ll have bandwidth for bigger things like a webinar or new lead magnet. The trick is matching your effort to your capacity, so you’re always moving forward.
